What Are Dermal Fillers and How Do They Work?
Your face has fat pads under the skin that give it shape and projection. Over time, those pads can lose volume and shift. Bone structure changes too. Collagen production slows. The cheeks may start to flatten, and the folds from your nose to your mouth may deepen. These changes happen as both the skin and underlying facial structures age.
Dermal fillers address these changes by adding volume beneath the skin and improving facial contours. Hyaluronic acid gel can help restore lost fullness in specific areas. Your body naturally produces hyaluronic acid, but results depend on the product and injection technique. Some fillers contain lidocaine to help reduce discomfort during injections. Additional numbing may be needed depending on the treatment.
What Makes Filler Treatments at 901 Aesthetics Different?
Numbing cream reduces sensation on the skin’s surface, but it doesn’t block deeper nerves. You may still feel pressure, especially in sensitive areas like the lips and tear troughs. A nerve block can help reduce discomfort. Lauren may administer nerve blocks when appropriate. Patients who have experienced uncomfortable filler treatments elsewhere may appreciate these additional comfort measures.
Lauren also uses a blunt-tipped cannula for many filler treatments. Instead of repeatedly puncturing tissue, a cannula can pass through with fewer entry points. This technique may reduce tissue trauma and bruising in some cases. However, some swelling and bruising can still occur after treatment.
Filler Products We Use in Germantown and Why It Matters: Which One

Juvederm

Restylane
Also hyaluronic acid, with a slightly firmer gel that holds its shape precisely where it’s placed rather than spreading. For tear trough correction and areas where a defined depth matters more than natural spread, Restylane tends to give cleaner results. Also reversible.
Radiesse
This one works differently. Radiesse gives immediate volume and also triggers your body to produce new collagen around the particles over the following months. That collagen continues improving the result after the filler itself starts to absorb. Best for jawline contouring, deeper cheek structure. Because it’s not hyaluronic acid, it’s not reversible with hyaluronidase.

The lines from the nose to the corners of the mouth. Filler placed here alone helps, but addressing the cheek volume that’s driving them deeper produces a better result than treating the fold in isolation.
Jawline
This is where Radiesse shines. It defines the jaw angle, sharpens the border between face and neck, and the collagen stimulation keeps improving the result for months after the initial treatment.
Marionette lines
The lines running downward from the corners of the mouth. Small amounts lift the corners without making the area look overdone.
Chin
Adding projection to a recessed chin changes the balance of the whole face. Often done alongside jawline filler in the same session.
Temples
When the temples hollow, the upper face narrows and the brows sit lower. Volume here restores the upper frame of the face and opens everything up.

When Will You See Results and How Long Do Dermal Fillers Last?
You may notice a difference immediately after treatment. Swelling during the first few days can make results appear more pronounced. This is common and usually improves gradually. Results often become clearer within two weeks, although some swelling may take longer to resolve.
How long fillers last depends on the product and treatment area. Lip fillers typically last 6 to 12 months. Cheek fillers may last 12 to 18 months, depending on the formulation. Radiesse results can also last a year or longer. Some clients schedule maintenance treatments as their results gradually fade.

Filler Selection
The product and placement get mapped to your specific anatomy before anything is prepared. Juvederm for softer zones.
Nerve Block or Numbing
Lauren offers nerve blocks for filler.She’ll recommend it for the areas where it makes the most difference.
Injection
Cannula or fine needle, depending on the area. Most full-face sessions run 30 to 60 minutes. You see the result before you leave.
Aftercare
Avoid intense exercise, heat, and pressure on the treated areas for 24 hours. Final result in two weeks. Lauren handles touch-ups if anything needs attention.
