SkinPen Microneedling
Microneedling is a non-invasive skin care treatment that creates tiny injuries in the surface of the skin to stimulate the body’s natural wound-healing process. This helps remodel scar tissue and improve the overall tightness and texture of the skin so it looks smoother and more youthful. It also helps skin care products penetrate the skin more deeply.
We are glad to add the SkinPen Microneedling to our menu of services, the first microneedling device to be cleared by the FDA for the treatment of acne scars. Patient satisfaction with the SkinPen is sky high — in clinical trials, 90 percent of SkinPen patients would recommend microneedling to their loved ones.

SkinPen vs Traditional Microneedling
SkinPen microneedling and traditional microneedling both use tiny needles to stimulate collagen production and improve skin texture, but SkinPen offers more precision, control, and safety features. SkinPen typically requires fewer sessions, offers faster recovery, and is generally gentler for sensitive skin. Traditional microneedling, often involving derma rollers, can be less precise and may have longer recovery times.
In addition to treating facial and body skin concerns, NOUVADerm features a unique Hair Support Mode. This specialized mode helps revitalize the scalp, stimulate blood circulation, and support hair growth. When paired with DERIVE serum, this treatment can enhance scalp health and hair vitality, making it a great option for those looking to improve their hair and scalp condition.
FAQs:
Microneedling involves passing a needle-tipped device over the targeted skin. As the name suggests, the SkinPen looks similar to a pen. The length of the needles can vary, depending on the depth needed to address the patient’s particular concern. The needles make miniscule punctures in the surface of the skin.
Piercing the skin signals to the immune system that it needs to disinfect the wounds, remove debris, increase blood flow to the area and start to formulate new tissue. Fresh collagen and elastin flood the area. Over the next few weeks, the skin continues to heal and tighten. The wound is replaced with new tissue and blood vessels.
The microneedling process takes about 30 minutes, depending on the size of the treatment area.

The provider will gently cleanse the skin. Topical anesthesia may be administered to ensure maximum comfort throughout the treatment.
Once the numbing cream has taken effect, the provider will gently pass SkinPen over the treatment areas. As the tiny needles create micro-channels in the skin, patients typically feel light pressure and a mild bussing sensation, with minimal discomfort. The treatment lasts approximately 30 minutes.
Most patients notice slight redness in the treated area, similar to a mild sunburn. Additional common treatment responses include dryness, tightness, and peeling. This is normal and should subside within 24 to 72 hrs. Makeup and sunscreen can be applied 24 hrs after the treatment.
Some people notice rejuvenated skin after their first SkinPen treatment; however, optimal long-term results are best seen after four or more treatments. Ongoing skin improvements will continue for three to six months following the last treatment.
